The Daily Wire is looking for a Human Resources Compliance & Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources team in Nashville, TN! The Human Resources Compliance & Payroll Specialist will be dedicated to ensuring that legal standards with regard to employment law are adhered to and will provide guidance on all HR compliance matters. Additionally, he or she will manage Daily Wire’s bi-weekly payroll process and ensure it runs as efficiently and accurately as possible. Our ideal candidate has at least 5 years of professional HR experience with an emphasis on compliance and payroll processing. Additionally, he or she possesses a high level of attention-to-detail, is highly self-motivated, and demonstrates strong time-management and interpersonal skills. Responsibilities:

HR Compliance

  • Manage new state registrations as they apply to payroll and workers compensation (specifically Department of Revenue Registration)
  • Handle escalated issues, tax notices or tax audits for federal, state and local payroll- related taxes (including workers compensation, state disability and paid family leave where applicable)
  • Manage annual reporting around 401(k) compliance testing, ACA and EEO-1, as well as some other reports (for example, financial/ accounting requests, census, EEOC, Workers Compensation data, wage analysis, etc.)
  • 401k administration including functions such as, file transmissions, compliance testing, 5500 reporting and serves as a primary contact for TPA and auditors
  • Lead the implementation and administration of state and local sick pay programs including paid family leave from an employee relations and payroll perspective
  • Maintain the vacation, sick/personal and holiday program, display expertise in the management of the accruals
  • Responsible for internal compliance audits
    • Maintain records and prepare documents necessary for HR compliance
  • Stay current on all state and local laws impacting compliance and to avoid liability to the company
    • Properly interpret and apply state laws and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Payroll Processing

  • Review timecard records for errors and unexplained variances
    • Work with managers and employees to clear up any errors.
  • When applicable, ensure that all new hires, status changes and terms are processed in compliance with established expectations specific to system entry, turnaround times and confirmations
  • Respond to payroll questions with accuracy, urgency (same day turnaround), and with an efficient, customer centric approach
  • Ensure payroll practices are compliant with company policy, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and federal, state and IRS regulations
  • Serve as the primary lead on payroll processing
    • Responsible for timely and accurate payroll prep, transmittal and reconciliation of bi-weekly payrolls
  • Maintain and utilize the established payroll checklist/reports process and adhere to preview and closing deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

HR Analytics

  • Develop, own, and optimize HR dashboard
  • Produce reports and ad hoc requests at regular intervals using tools such as Excel
  • Develop scorecards, dashboards, and reports that effectively depict information in a concise and actionable manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience & Requirements:

  • Nashville, TN -based position (working remotely is not an option)
  • 3+ years of multi-state HR Compliance & Payroll Processing experience required
  • 5+ years of overall HR experience required
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, with an intermediate level of Excel skill
  • Assurance to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and respect all operational controls
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail combined with an analytical eye
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and exercise good judgment
  • Ability to professionally and collaboratively interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient
  • Effective written and verbal communication and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Namely (HRIS) a plus
  • G-Suite proficiency

Compensation: $65K - $75K
